At least two views of design endeavor are consistent with the action-centric perspective. The two contain three undemanding activities.

A layout process is a general philosophy which may or won't incorporate a guide for specific methods. Some are to guide the final goal of the design. Other systems are to steer the developments of the designer.

In the reflection-in-action paradigm, designers trade among "framing", "making moves", and "evaluating moves". "Framing" refers to conceptualizing the problem, i.e., defining aims and objectives. A "move" is a tentative design decision. The analysis approach could result in added moves in the design.

In the sensemaking–coevolution–implementation framework, designers alternate between its three titular activities. Sensemaking contains the two framing and evaluating moves. Implementation is the method of making the layout object. Coevolution is "the procedure wherein the design agent concurrently refines its intellectual photograph of the layout object in keeping with its intellectual picture of the context, and vice versa"
